The internationally prized Brunello di Montalcino is a classic of Tuscan wines. It is 100% Sangiovese, originating from the hills surrounding the town of Montalcino in the south of Tuscany. This particular wine was first mentioned in the mid 19th century, made famous by the Biondi Santi family who had put their efforts into valorizing the Sangiovese vine. Today this wine must be 100% Sangiovese, it also must be aged 4 years, with 2 in oak barrels, plus an extra 4 months in the bottle. These are the longest aging requirements for any wine in Italy! Fornacella has decided to let this particular Brunello di Montalcino age 3 years in oak, and the other year in the bottle.
The result is a wine of Intense ruby with garnet reflections. With aromas of berries, violets, blackberries, and blueberries, emphasized by licorice, tobacco, and herbs. The compact tannins and a strong taste bring us an elegant and surprisingly easy drinkable wine. Pair it with a rich plate of Pici and Ragu or your favorite meat dish.
Podere Fornacella has always been a supporter of organic farming, certified by ICEA, limits to the maximum the use of chemical pesticide treatments in favor of natural practices. This determines a very low residue in the wine in favor of an authentic "agricultural" taste.
